For the train, we suggest you to buy the ticket from http://railway.hinet.net/. & http://twtraffic.tra.gov.tw/twrail/English/e_index.aspx.The website has English version so you may check which train you should take. (Internet booking systems official opening hours: every day from 6:00. (UTC+08:00) Taipei )
It takes about 10 min. from Hualien train station to the lodge. ( Trust me, 10 minutes from the city center, you will enjoy the central mountain?s fresh air.)
The transportation from Errantry Lodge to Hualien Railway Station or downtown such as Nanbin Night Market , which costs only NT 150 / by taxi.( Truly Sorry that we do not provide pickup service by our own, because the workload is rather high.)

A 3 day trip is the most basic planning for a trip to Hualien.
Suggests you to go to the Taroko National Park for the first day. http://www.taroko.gov.tw/English/ (The attractions include Shakadang Trail, Eternal Spring Shrine, Buluowan, Swallow Grotto, Tunnel of Nine Turns, Tianxiang, etc.)
For the second day, you may consider the East Rift Valley Tour http://www.erv-nsa.gov.tw/user/main.aspx?Lang=2&SNo= (The attractions include Carp Lake, National Dong Hwa University, Lin Tian Shan Culture Studio, Guangfu Sugar Refinery, Ma Tai An Wetland Ecological Park, RuiShui Farm, etc.)
It is as great as the tour to Taroko National Park. Or you can let me know if you have anywhere you want to go.
