Beskrivningen är på engelska och delvis skriven av de som driver boendet. Vandrarhem Port Campbell Hostel, Port Campbell, Australien
As our way of saying thanks for booking with us, we are providing the person who books from this site with 30 minutes of FREE WiFi. (With no strings attached! To claim your free WiFi, simply book your bed from this site, then ask for your Wifi voucher when you check in. Could not be easier!)
Our 2 year old hostel is located in the heart of Port Campbell (pop. 400), at the western end of the famous Great Ocean Road. We are a really easy 10-minute drive from some of the most spectacular and popular coastal attractions in Australia - The Twelve Apostles; Loch Ard Gorge; London Bridge; The Bay of Islands; (etc) - and sit smack-bang in the middle of an area that offers loads to see for those guests motivated to get out there and get personal with mother nature!
The hostel consistently ranks on hostelworld.com as one of the top-10 hostels in Australia and, in particular, rates as one of the cleanest hostels in the country.
Our reception desk is manned to reflect the usual flow of travellers on the Great Ocean Road: from 5.00pm until around 8.00pm each night, and 8.00am-10.00am for check-out.
In addition to living next door to what can be - arguably - one of the most spectacular sunset experiences in Australia at the Twelve Apostles, the surrounding area provides the opportunities to get into a range of outdoor activities suiting the young (or young at heart)... especially during the summer months!
Take a boat tour to grab the chance to see the Twelve Apostles from sea level (when conditions permit).
Or dive onto one of the 15 wrecks along the immediate coastline.
Or if you love golf, our area provides a couple of cracker jack golf courses.
Or if you are into mountain biking, see our reception about a couple of MTB trails in the area. (And we have MTBs available to rent at very reasonable prices.)
If you like surfing, Port Campbell is home to one of the biggest waves in Australia - a 40 foot monster that swells up around March and April every year. There is also a gentler wave just east of Port Campbell Bay, and heaps of great surfing breaks dotted all along the coastline.
We are pretty proud of this stretch of coastline and welcome you, from wherever you call home, to Port Campbell, and our hostel to experience this neck of the woods, for yourselves.
Port Campbell Hostel . Victoria . Australia
If you book a bed through this site, PLEASE read the email hostelworld will soon send to you. It does a few things... like confirm your booking; reinforce the Terms and Conditions (Ts and Cs) related to your booking AND provide some local tips that just might come in handy. (For instance, it outlines the opening hours of the fuel and grocery outlets in town. (Port Campbell is a tiny sea-side village, and some local businesses do not trade for as long as you may expect.) It comments about mobile telephone reception in the district (TAKE NOTE: the Vodaphone network has no reception in Port Campbell) and provides information about a brilliant cliff-face walk that starts from the Port Campbell beach.
We know that reading that email is not compulsory, but it does provide valuable local knowledge if you want to make the most of your time in Port Campbell, and this part of Australia.
Finally, only info in that message prefixed with PCH was prepared by our hostel. Any content NOT prefixed with PCH did not come from the hostel.
Övrig information om detta Vandrarhem(PCH) INTRODUCTION. While we understand that most of this sort of ?official? information is bland and boring, we also strongly recommend you take the time to read it before you hit the road... especially the ?House Rules? (and FAQ?s, if you?d like to pick up a little local knowledge). And while we believe that there?s nothing within the Hostel?s House Rules that are at all peculiar when it comes to the usual expectations of backpackers and independent travelers who frequent Hostels, if you?ve got any questions - please contact the Hostel directly.
(PCH) RECOMMENDATION ABOUT ESTIMATING YOUR ARRIVAL TIME AT THE HOSTEL. Port Campbell is uniquely situated close to the western end of Victoria's Great Ocean Road, about a 10 minute drive west of the iconic 12 Apostles. Most nights - just after sunset - we normally see an influx of travelers arrive in town, seeking accommodation (especially so during the summer and autumn months)? and most people have not booked. So, we believe you will understand that pressure to provide accommodation rises steeply most nights, around sunset.
(PCH) HOUSE RULE 1: WE GUARENTEE YOUR BOOKING FOR 60 MINUTES AFTER YOUR NOMINATED ETA. Port Campbell Hostel guarantees your booking for one hour (60 minutes) after your nominated Arrival Time (ETA) and asks that, if you feel you may arrive at the Hostel later than 60 minutes after your ETA, contact us to let us know. Either phone or email. If you do not make contact with the Hostel, then arrive LATER than 60 minutes after your ETA, the Hostel (a) retains the right to return your booked bed(s)/room(s) back to the market, for sale at rack rates, but WILL (b) allocate you alternative bed(s)/room(s) within the Hostel.
(PCH) OUR COMMENT ABOUT ESTIMATING THE TIME IT TAKES TO DRIVE THE LENGTH OF THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD. Many guests underestimate the time it can take to drive westwards, on the Great Ocean Road (that is, if you are driving west, towards Port Campbell, on the GOR). While the GOR is only a reasonably short driving distance on maps, there are dozens of natural attractions you may wish to stop and see along the way. So, please consider that point as you plan your drive and, therefore, when you calculate your estimated Arrival Time.
(PCH) HOUSE RULE 2: CHECKING-IN. The Hostel?s check-in counter generally opens at 5.00pm every day, and (normally) remains open until around 8.00pm. A later check-in time is permitted as long as you request that with the Hostel Manager, either via email or phone.
(PCH) HOUSE RULE 3: CREDIT CARD FACILITIES. The Hostel accepts VISA and Mastercard credit cards, if you wish to settle your account using this method of payment. Note that, from 1 December 2010, credit-card transactions will attract a surcharge of 2%, applied to the total cost of accommodation.
(PCH) HOUSE RULE 4: ISSUING OF KEY-CARDS. Hostel guests are issued with a key-card that permits access to their room and after-hours access into the Hostel. Key-cards are issued upon payment of an AUD $10.00 cash bond, which is fully refunded when the key-card is returned and as long as the guest?s behavior in the Hostel was acceptable during their stay.
(PCH) HOUSE RULE 5: KITCHEN OPENING HOURS. We do not want want anybody to burn the Hostel down when cooking. So, for safety reasons, power to the Hostel?s hard-wired cooking amenities (e.g. ovens, stove-tops) is automatically supplied from 5.00pm-10.30pm, and in the morning from 8.00am?10.00am when requested. Portable kitchen cooking amenities (e.g. toasters, kettles) can be used at all times.
(PCH) HOUSE RULE 6: OUTDOOR GRILLS/BBQs OPENING HOURS. For similar reasons as outlined above, we will turn on the gas supply to the Hostel?s outdoor grills/BBQs when requested from 5.00pm?10.30pm and in the morning from 8.00am?10.00am (again, when requested).
(PCH) HOUSE RULE 7: HOT WATER SUPPLY TO THE HOSTEL?S SHOWERS. To help minimize noise inside the Hostel, hot water to the Hostel?s showers is only available from 7.00am?10.00am and 5.00pm?10.30pm. No hot water flows to the Hostel?s showers outside those hours.
(PCH) HOUSE RULE 8: CHECKING-OUT. Check-out from the Hostel is 10.00am sharp, unless you have made prior arrangements with the Hostel.
(PCH) HOUSE RULE 9: HOSTEL CLOSED FOR CLEANING BETWEEN 10.30am-4.30pm EACH DAY. The Hostel is closed between 10.30am ? 4.30pm each day to everyone except guests who have paid to stay consecutive nights.
(PCH) HOUSE RULE 10: NO SHOWS. The terms and conditions of your booking allow the Hostel to charge your credit card for the balance of the cost of your accommodation if you fail to show (a ?no-show?). If you are not going to fill your booking, contact the Hostel directly to inform us of that, either by phone or email. Otherwise, the Hostel will charge your credit card to the extent permitted by HostelWorld?s terms and conditions relating to no-shows.
(PCH) FAQ 1: Alcohol-where can you buy beer, wine and spirits in Port Campbell? From either the Port Campbell Hotel (can sell off-licence liquor until 11.00pm), or the general store.
(PCH) FAQ 2: How reliable is cell (mobile) phone coverage? From experience, only Telstra provides consistent and reasonably reliable reception along the western end of the Great Ocean Road, and in Port Campbell (with Optus providing better coverage as time goes by). Other phone network providers ? for example, Vodafone, or the 3 network ? normally offer poor reception at this end of the GOR.
(PCH) FAQ 3: Where can you buy groceries in Port Campbell? At the small general store on the main street of Port Campbell. It is normally open from around 7.30am-7.30pm, though its hours of operation vary depending upon demand. While it carries a reasonably large range of products it does not carry as much stock as you would expect to find in a major supermarket.
(PCH) FAQ 4: Where can you buy fuel (aka: petrol, gas) in Port Campbell? There is a fuel station located in the village?s main street. It is open from 8.00am-8.00pm, 365 days of the year.
(PCH) FAQ 5: Are there any good walks around Port Campbell? Yes. The 'Discovery' walk, to the immediate west of the village, is a 4km round-trip (allow 1 ½ hours) that is suitable for all fitness levels. It takes you along the cliff-face on top of Port Campbell Bay, offering exceptional views of the Southern Ocean and brilliant views east, along the coastline towards the 12 Apostles. It's an excellent, short walk that, depending on the weather, can really highlight the power of the Southern Ocean!
Att ta sig till Port Campbell Hostel VandrarhemIf you're approaching Port Campbell in a vehicle, simply follow the yellow-on-blue ?I? (information) signs directing you to the Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre, which is very close to the middle of Port Campbell. When you reach the VIC, look down the hill? the hostel is the large sandstone brick building on the corner, almost directly across the street from the VIC.
If you're coming into Port Campbell by bus: Get off at Port Campbell?s only public bus-stop (outside the Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club on Tregea Street). Walk up Tregea Street, away from the sea, following a row of Norfolk Pine trees on your left-hand-side. The hostel is the large sandstone brick building close to the end of those trees ? it?s on the corner of Tregea and Morris Streets, about 150m from the bus-stop. |
